Is it true Chefs work long hard hours for little pay?

It is only when you become famous that you will get more money really. Or if you own a restaurant yourself and it is doing well that you will come out with a lot of money. Because for me I'm thinking of being a chef, but i don't wanna be working for no 30k a year. i know executive and sous chef get paid good but most places there can only be one. and imma just be starting out with no xperience. wat are u guys opinions
