Engine stalling?

my 1996 mercury mystique is stalling when you slow down, or go below 25mph. last week, a part of the sparkplug dropped into the engine, but we got it out. could that have anything to do with it stalling? how do you fix the stalling problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
